The 3D seismic acquisition survey, carried out by LUKOIL Overseas, LUKOIL’s subsidiary, is underway on East Rapsodia and Trident blocks in the Romanian Sector of the Black Sea. Seismic operations are being carried out by geophysical services provider CGGVeritas, after it won the respective tender, and will be completed in November 2012. The planned scope of the survey will be up to 2,000 square kilometers. Therefore for the first time in its history LUKOIL has begun upstream operations in a European Union member country. Rosneft has begun exploration work at the East Prinovozemelsky 1 and 2 license blocks in the Kara Sea. Geological surveying has been started one year ahead of the license schedule. Work will run through October 2012. RN Shelf Far East, a Rosneft subsidiary, will carry out the work. 3D seismic on an area of 3,000 square kilometres will be carried out at the East Prinovozemelsky 1 block. Three vessels will survey the area: Western Trident, capable of carrying up to 12 seismic cables, will carry out seismic, with support from 2 Russian vessels – Neftegaz 61 (bathymetric survey of the seabed) and Kapitan Kosolapov. The contractor is Dalmorneftegeophysica, a leader in the Russian marine seismic industry. Advanced technologies from WesternGeco, a global leader in marine seismic, will be used in the surveys. EMGS and MultiClient Geophysical announced a unique, integrated study of 2D seismic and 3D EM. They have interpreted prospective areas based on the dense 2x4 km MC2D grid from MCG’ modern dataset. The interpretation of the seismic has been used to build a background model for the 3D anisotropic inversion of the available 3D EM data in the area. Read more...
Seabird: oil companies are now "massively interested" in frontier areas to drill for new oil and gas resources. Seabird Exploration says oil companies are now back in the proprietary 2D seismic market and the company says it is seeing increasing dayrates too. Recently the company has been developing an equivalent to wide azimuth technology in the 3D market, called ultra-long offset 2D using a 20 kilometre (12.4 mile) long cable for continuous data recording. These market trends have been identified by Seabird Exploration during a presentation to the Pareto Securities conference in Norway. Read more...

Schlumberger announced the launch of IsoMetrix marine isometric seismic technology and the IsoMetrix family of marine seismic products. This breakthrough technology outputs isometrically sampled point-receiver data in both crossline and inline directions-capturing the returning wavefield in three dimensions and providing the most accurate images of the subsurface ever recorded. The IsoMetrix system uses calibrated, multisensor MEMS technology that forms part of the new WesternGeco Nessie-6 point-receiver seismic streamer. The sensors measure acoustic pressure as well as vertical and crossline acceleration throughout the frequency range, and these measurements are provided as customer deliverables.
